Nausicaa frills!

I am working on the Nausicaa costume, and I think it's coming together really quickly! I decided to add a tiny skirt to the tunic/top so it would fit my body better and look a little cuter. While Nausicaa was probably more worried about the Sea of Decay, she was still a girl, right?

Flirty yet sweet!
I forgot to take a picture of the goodwill skirt I took apart to add to this, but I think you get the picture, right? Right!

Ta Da!!
If you are playing I spy with this picture, you may notice my lovely white leggings I'm wearing...Well, I'll post more of that later!

Happy Tomato, Grumpy Tomato.

As some of you may know, I work at a local farmer's market and I love it! Surrounded by fresh fruits and veggies is the best!
And because I was so happy about working there, I decided to create a piece of wearable appreciation! Behold! The Happy Tomato, Grumpy Tomato Duo!!
Happy Tomato is so happy! Grumpy Tomato is so grumpy!

I made this out of felt and embroidered the little faces onto a clip I had lying around. The whole thing took about 20 mins I think! But I'm really happy with the result! And a lot of people got a kick out of it at work. So all in all, success!!
When I see a customer I like! Happy Tomato time!

When you are a mean customer! Grumpy Tomato time!

Nausicaa!!

What am I excited for? I'll tell you what!

MEGACON!!!
It's going to be spectacular. I'm going to be busting out my inner nerd until March 15th.  And the best part? It's going to be my first official convention. Yay for milestones!!

Oh yes, and with a month and a week to go, I have precious little time to put together my costume.  I decided to go with one of my all time favorite movie characters, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

fanpop.com

She's the perfect blend of human with a slice of supernatural ability.
So I went out last night for fabric, came home and started my costume!

The beginning!
First things first! Nausicaa's top/tunic is all one piece, so I had to find something I could adjust that would still fit my body type. This shirt was a really great work shirt, so I took it apart and made it my template!

One arm down...

After that, I just pinned it together and sewed like mad!
So spiffy!
And two hours later, I was done! This might have taken me longer than usual...I was distracted by the multiple Star Trek episodes I may or may not have been watching...heh heh!

Bunny Clip!

So after a ridiculously long hiatus, I'm back! And the only reason is my dear friend who wants to see all the projects I've done.
Without further ado, I present the Bunny Clip!

I am so cute, please wear me!!

Ah yes! I made this little baby in two hours and was really happy with the result. I've worn it out and about several times already, and I think it's hopperific! I ended up embroidering that cute little face! It was great too, because I had extra scraps around that were perfect for his cute little ears!

Such an adorable clip! I look slightly possessed...Oh well!
I wear it regularly, but I think I might be wearing it around on Easter if I'm working.

Birthday Bash!

Yesterday was a rip-roaring birthday bash! A picnic on Alki beach, parasailing in the Seattle sound, and bar hopping until 2 am! It's very nice to be an even number. 22, here I come!

I recently made delicious mango muffins. It was supposed to be mango bread, but muffins only take 20 mins and are portable! They are more like a light cookie, but are 100% delicious. Here is the recipe (courtesy of cooks.com)
MANGO BREAD
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 stick butter
1/2 c. oil
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. coconut
1/2 c. nuts (lg. pieces)
2 c. lg. pieces mango
Mix flour, sugar, eggs, butter, oil, baking soda, vanilla and salt together. Add remaining ingredients and stir. Pour into a greased bread pan or Number 2 cans. Let stand for 20 minutes before baking. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

A tragic tragety

"The She-Devil in the Mirror" by Horacio Castellanos Moya is a dizzying, spiraling tale spun in first-person monologue and will keep your eyes glued to the page. It took me a couple of pages to get used to the chatty, biased narrator's story, but the pace picks up fairly quickly. When Laura's best friend is murdered by a hit-man, she becomes determined to find out who pulled the trigger. With money, good-looks and an obsessive will, she begins digging up the past in a desperate attempt to glue the pieces together. With the country on the brink of economic upheaval, Laura's sensible voice becomes shriller, less cognitive and more paranoid as her world begins to fall apart.
A beautifully translated story in a writing style which is rarely successful, this is a must read!
